Taking it Serious...

In the past few weeks, I have spent time personally reflecting on what is important in life. I have found that in the absence of my son, I remember the days of playing catch, going to his baseball and basketball games. Taking our girls to their volleyball practices and games as well. Those times have now past and yet, I took them serious. I know that they were important to each one of them.

I was at a local high school boy’s basketball game officiating and observed at halftime, several moms and dads reading, texting on their cell phone and their PDA's. There seemed to be a real disconnect from the game and their child. I asked myself if they were taking it serious. The time they were spending and investing in their child. Was their attendance at the game, play or recital only a step or exercise that indicated they were a good parent? Or by chance, were they taking it serious?

Now, I look back and am thankful for the days that I took serious with our children. The times we spent together at activities, meals around the table, wrapping presents and a myriad of other activities. It wasn’t until late in their lives that I started taking it serious. When I did though, I took it serious.

What is it that I took serious? Well, the fact that I made them a priority of my life. In doing this, I was able to show them a picture of the One that takes them very serious. The One that cares for them regardless of how good or bad they are. The One that gave everything He had up for them. This One was all about taking it serious!

The One who took it serious is the Son of God. Jesus Christ my Lord! He took it serious. Jesus was willing to leave heaven with God and come to earth as a baby. Born not only to die, but in His death, pay the debt you and I couldn’t. The debt He paid was for all of yours and my sins/wrong doings. He not only died, Jesus would come back to life in order that you and I could have a relationship with Him. Not a religion! Not a bunch of rules! A true relationship that He desires to have with each of us.

The world is all about itself and getting all that it can get for itself. Jesus, He was and is all about you and me. He is all about taking it serious. He did take it serious. We only have just a short time here on earth. The eternity beyond life here is what matters.

My question for you, are you taking it serious? Are you making every moment of your life count so that you can make a difference in others? We get so busy doing things that don’t amount to a lot. We are so distracted by the things of life that we forget what is important. Invest your life in others. Make a difference in them. But, make Jesus the main thing in your life. Apart for Jesus, we are only taking up space, consuming groceries and not investing our lives wisely. Begin today by taking it serious! Take it serious about what you do with Jesus.
